COMPETITION
Story telling is a competition specifically designed to test your verbal ability by adapting yourself to the situated condition and not forgetting the essence of story telling itself. It will test your linguistic skills, your confidence to speak in front of public, and imagination to convey an original story in attractive ways within a designated time. Creativity, imagination, and confidence are the keys to the winning the hearts of audience.

Rules and Regulations

All competition rules are binding, absolute, and might be altered, added, or eliminated by the committees if felt necessary. Participant who doesn’t abide the rules will be disqualified.

Participants are highly suggested to come at least 30 minutes before the competition starts and must re-register at the assigned location.

Every communication devices must be silent or turned off during the competition.

Participants are not allowed to use electronic gadgets during the performance (electronic dictionaries, laptop, PDA, etc.)

Story telling competition is an individual competition. A registered participant cannot be replaced.

Participants who have already performed are allowed to watch other participants’ performance, as long as they do not disturb or interrupt the performance. Participants are prohibited to enter or leave the competition room during other participant’s performance.

Participants are required to bring their name tags (provided by the committees) in order to enter the competition room.

None of the participants is allowed to read any story texts or notes when delivering the story.
-
Any sharp objects such as knife, scissors, etc. are prohibited.

No foul language and no swearing.

The timing will begin with the first word uttered by the participant. No signal will be given for overtime period. The maximum time varies in each round. If a participant exceeds the performing time given, 3 points will be deducted from a maximum of 30 seconds of the exceeding time.

The judges’ decision is final.

Each participant will be called three times in a row based on his/her turn (first chance). Participants who don’t come up after being called three times (first chance) will be put on the last turn (second chance). Participants who don’t come on the second chance will be disqualified.

Every rule has to be followed. Disqualification is necessary for every participant who doesn’t abide the rule.

Participants can only be in the quarantine and competition room during the competition.

The managers or teachers of the participants may accompany their students during the competition without getting any charge and they will not get the privilege to observe or watch the entire competition.

Participants are highly recommended to attend the opening ceremony and the technical meeting. The participants who do not attend the technical meeting will not get any guarantees to gain further information from the committees.

The scoring will be based on:

General appearance : properties and costumes

Gesture and mimic : body language and acting
-
Eye contact : interaction with the audience
-
Prologue and epilogue : the beginning and the ending of the story
-
Structure : arrangement and plot of the story
-
Creativity : the uniqueness of the story
-
Fluency : how fluent the participants present the story
-
Pronunciation : the manner of pronouncing something properly
-
Clarity : the clarity of the voice in presenting the story
-
Intonation : the pitch of the voice in presenting the story
-
Grammar : grammatical structure of the story
Rounds
Preliminary Round 1: Feels Like Home
For the first round, you should deliver the story you have prepared with your own style and without ever mentioning the taboo words given. The story will be about “Life in Africa”. The taboo words are: Madagascar characters, cactus, desert, hot, giraffe, lion.

You may bring your own properties to help you deliver your story. The properties should be according to the rules.

Costumes are allowed in this round (attire only).

The performing time shall be 7 minutes length.
-
There will be a sign showed to the performing participant at the last 2 minutes, the last 1 minute, and the last 30 seconds before the performing ends.
Preliminary Round 2: Find your way to rome !
You will encounter a new challenge here. You will choose one of the prepared plots from the committees and you only have a limited time to imagine what the story will be like. It will look like you’re trying to find your “special way” to deliver the story from the beginning until the end. After some time, in the middle of your performance, the judges will change the plot unexpectedly, or not. The judges will score you based on how you think fast and how you connect each plot creatively.

There will be a sign showed to the performing participant at the last 2 minutes, the last 1 minute, and the last 30 seconds before the performing ends.
QuARTER FINAL: LISTEN, WATCH AND STRIKE !
This round can be considered as the “Slides and Sounds” round. In this round, you will encounter something “unique and challenging” because this round will need a lot of your senses collaboration, especially eyes and ears. You should pick a file which has been prepared by the committees and the show will begin. After that, you’ll see some pictures within the slides, and sounds too, and your job is to make a story line based on the pictures and sounds that appears on the screen. The time of pictures or sounds appearance and duration is unexpected, so be prepared. When the slide goes blank, you only have 30 seconds to conclude your story. The judges will score you on how you connect each pictures and sounds and the relation with your story line.
SEMI FINAL: IN A BEE HIVE
This round can be considered as the “Tag Team” round. In this round, you will be divided into several groups consist of four participants in each group. The committee will give one of the participants in your team a plot, and once the performance starts, the first person will share the story. And then, the committee will pass the story to the next person in that team by saying “NEXT”, and he/she should continue the story with sense. If you have ended your turn, you have to “freeze” till your next turn. When the committee shouts “CONCLUDE IT” at the last person’s turn, he/she should end the story well. The judges will score based on how you work in a team, and how you collaborate your mind with the other participants.

Each turn will be given time for 30 seconds.

Each participant will have the chance to speak for 6 times.

The order of the turn will be determined by drawing the lot.
FINAL: BETWEEN DREAM AND REALITY
This round can be considered as “Duel” round. The two grand finalists will perform together in order to reach the champion title. In this round, the committee will throw a plot to the grand finalist who gets the first turn and he/she should start the story. Basically, this round looks like the semi final round, but it will be more intense and more fantastic. Through this round, we will know the one that wakes from his/her dream. Fight till the end and reach the champion title!
